Cayla Schroeder
Assistant Coach


Cayla Schroeder enters her first season as an assistant coach of the volleyball program at University of Sioux Falls. Prior to coaching at USF, Schroeder served for five years as an instructor for various camps throughout Minnesota including Northern Lights, Midwest Volleyball Instructors, Rochester Volleyball Association and Kasson-Mantorville VB Camps.

Schroeder is a 2009 graduate of Augustana College with a degree in Exercise Science, minor in Psychology and a Coaching Endorsement. She played as an outside hitter for the Vikings.

Throughout her four years at Augustana, Schroeder was a three-year starter accruing 1071 kills and 1493 digs. Additionally, she received various accolades including 1st Team North Central Conference (2007), 1st Team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (2008), 2-time All-North Central Region Honorable Mention (2007 & 2008), 2-time Second Team Daktronics All-Region (2007 & 2008), and 2-time North Central Region All-Tournament Team (2007 & 2008). V Open Nationals (2003), in addition she had the opportunity to play in Italy against various international competition. 


Joy Scholten
Assistant Coach/JV Coach


Joy Scholten enters her first season as JV coach and assistant varsity coach at USF. Prior to coaching at USF, Scholten coached at Pella Christian High School for 3 years and various club teams in both Iowa and South Dakota over the past 5 years.

Joy is a 1996 graduate of Dordt College with a degree in Exercise Science and Psychology. Throughout her four years at Dordt, Scholten was a 4 year starter in the Middle Hitter position. She earned several 1st Team All District Nominations from 1993-1995. She also helped her team earn the National Team Academic Award in 1993, competed at the NAIA Nationals in 1995, was named Academic All-American in 1995, and just missed the current school record by .1 for Best Attack % with 94.2% in 1992.

She also earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in HPER, emphasis in Recreation Therapy in 1997. Joy and her husband, Shane, have three children, Hailey (5), Sierra (3), and Ethan (1).


Juliann Schoeneman
Assistant Coach


Juliann Schoeneman returns to USF for her first season as an assistant coach at the University of Sioux Falls. As a player Schoeneman was a four year varsity member and all-conference selection for the Cougars. She played right side, middle, and her senior year she stepped into the role of the setter, as that is where her team needed her the most.
Prior to her coaching at USF, Schoeneman coached at many of the area Junior Olympic Volleyball Programs.
Schoeneman is a 2007 graduate of the University of Sioux Falls with a degree in Exercise Science, and also a 2009 graduate from the University of South Dakota with a degree in Nursing. She currently works at Sanford as a Registered Nurse.
Schoeneman is a 2003 graduate of Brandon Valley High School in Brandon, S.D. As a "Lynx" she was named to many all-tournament teams and was a two time selection for the all-conference and all-state teams. Schoeneman was a member of the honor roll in high school as well as a letter-winner in basketball and track and field.
